The HU Alumni Office has challenged our class to give $50,000 in 2023. To count for this year, the funds must be submitted by June 30, 2023.
We have incremental giving goals each year leading up to our 45th reunion in 2027, and of course we’ll go for the great whale in that year.
In order to streamline the giving and accounting, we are encouraging everyone to make donations via HU’s website.
HU has launched an annual fund campaign called The 1868 Loyal Blue Club. The stated charter of the club is as follows:
“Members of the 1868 Loyal Blue Club support the Student Emergency Fund with a gift of $18.68, $186.80, or $1,868.00. By working to eliminate financial hardships, the 1868 Loyal Blue Club helps to remove barriers to education and keeps options open for our students to attain the quality education and experiences they seek during their time at Hampton.”
The supporting web pages help to streamline our giving, and the school takes care of all the accounting. The campaign has set amounts it encourages alumni to donate. Visit the page, read up, and then scroll down the page to the “Give Now” button to make your donations.
You can select which fund your donations are earmarked for. When you get to the Donor Information screen, under “Your Preferred Class Year,” select “1982.” Once you select 1982, your donations will be counted for OPhiO IV. Be sure to read through the sequence of steps carefully.
We would like to see as many major donors ($1,868+ per year) for our class as possible, of course.
President Williams’ mantra with regards to giving is “Increase!” Both the participation and, of course, bottom-line contributions.
Why donate? Well, back in the day, when we were in school, back when cowry shells served as currency, graduates who had gone before us gave back so that our glorious education would be more attainable through scholarships, grants, work study, etc. Sadly, HBCUs no longer accept ancestral ornaments as tuition payment. Professors and staff now demand remuneration in U.S. currency. But our people are still in need of funding for college. This is why we give.
Watch this enlightening message from Hampton grads the Hrabowskis regarding the importance of giving.
So please consider continuing the legacy of donations, for the generations still to come at HU.
We appreciate you. Donate now.
